Following a career first in teaching, then in IT, in the summer of 2012 Steve Roberts gave up the office job to become a freelance writer.  Being a history graduate Steve writes a lot about history both ancient and modern.

His talk today is an affectionate look at both the Home Guard and its portrayal in the popular TV series.  We will learn about why the Home Guard was formed and what it did and  details about the TV series.  We will learn the sobering fact that the real Home Guard lost over 1,600 members killed on duty in its lifetime, with two of its members receiving the George Cross.  While being lively and fun, this talk will put the record straight.
