Sue & John Jolin, Lentune Probus Club’s intrepid holiday organisers, are pleased to announce that our Club Holiday in 2020 will be in Kent, the Garden of England.
From our base camp in the recently refurbished 4-star Burlington Hotel, Folkstone, members will explore what this lovely area of woodlands, winding country lanes, pretty villages, busy market towns and sea views has to offer.
We shall be conveyed to Folkstone by luxury coach on Sunday 28th June, with a lunchtime stopover at Leeds Castle, considered by many to be one of the loveliest castles in the world.
Burlington Hotel is an imposing Victorian building overlooking Folkstone’s clifftop gardens, with the English Channel visible beyond. The rooms offer a high standard of comfort and are equipped with a mini-bar and free wifi. There is a friendly hotel bar, with a terrace for sitting-out if the weather permits, and a good restaurant where members will eat on all four nights of our stay.
Trips have been arranged to Canterbury, Whitstable and the beautiful Sissinghurst Gardens, created by Vita Sackville-West and her husband Harold Nicholson, a couple associated with the Bloomsbury set of artists, writers and intellectuals, who “lived in squares and loved in triangles” in the early 1900s.
Time has been set aside in the schedule for members to explore Folkstone, which has experienced a renaissance in recent years, with the establishment of a ‘creative quarter’ in the harbour area, the restoration of much of the town’s Victorian heritage and improvements to the Lower Lees Coastal Park.
There will also be a trip on the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway.
Luxury coach transport throughout our stay will show Kent at its scenic best and the return journey will be via the picturesque town of Rye and Scotney Castle.
And all for £435 per person, sharing a double or twin room (£60 single room supplement). What’s not to like?
Early booking is recommended, with priority initially being given to Club members.
