Antique dealers report growing interest amongst Millennials, in buying and owning old things. Mass manufactured goods have become less popular and “pre-loved” items with a lower carbon footprint are now preferred. Many items previously owned by parents and grandparents are rising in value therefore.

Recognising this trend, Lentune Probus Ladies Club held an Antiques Appraisal Day at South Lawn today. Members and guests each brought one item for appraisal by Tim Anthonisz, former Sotherby's valuer and BBC Antiques Roadshow expert.

Members and guests presented Tim with an eclectic range of items to review and value, including books, memorabilia, lamps, jewellery, silverware, clocks, pictures and military antiques, in what proved to be a highly enjoyable and instructive session.

Star antique was a Swiss made, highly decorative music box with a lifelike clockwork bird that rose from the box and sang beautifully.

Lunch followed after which members returned home to reconsider whether they should increase their house contents cover!
