Most of us aim to retire eventually. Some retire early to create opportunities for younger employees, others less fortunate are forced into early retirement. Concurrently, our role as a family head may change, as wives/partners and adult children assume greater responsibility for their own lives.

Irrespective of how they retire, men often experience difficulty transitioning from successful manager to retiree. Whatever made us successful in our career may not be what is required for a successful retirement. Deciding what to do with time on your hands can be a problem, as is the loss of work-based social networks, especially if we relocate to a new retirement home some distance away.

Linking with like-minded people and organisations outside of work often helps the transition from work to retirement. Probus is an organisation that brings business people and professionals together, and with 1700 clubs nationwide there will be a club near you.

Lentune Probus Club in the New Forest is unusual in that we have separate clubs for our men and women members, each with a monthly lunch meeting with a speaker, plus joint meetings for social activities.

New members are always welcome.
