Our speaker on this occasion will be Sheila Ward and her subject: "Saving the New Forest".
Sheila will take us back to the 18th Century when there was a widely held belief that Britain was facing a shortage of the oak, from which naval vessels were constructed. In response, consideration was given to enclosing areas of the New Forest for timber production. Was this an early instance of "fake news"? Sheila will explain how the country came close to losing one of it's most iconic landscapes.
